Conference of the Recognized Halaal Certification Bodies 2011

The conference for all Halaal certifying organisations recognized by the Malaysian governments Islamic agency, JAKIM,  was held on the 7th of April 2011 at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre. The primary objective of the conference was to discuss and coordinate information relating to Halaal certification management systems. Various dignitaries attended the conference including the ambassadors of Jordan, Iraq and Sudan. Delegates were warmly welcomed by the Director General of Jakim, the Honourable Dato' Wan Mohamad bin Dato Sheikh Abdul Aziz.

The conference began with the recitation of the Holy Qur'aan. This was followed by a paper delivered by Ustaad Zainal Abidin bin Jaffar, a director of JAKIM,  whose topic covered the Policy for Appointment of Foreign Halaal Certification Bodies. He explained the procedures the Halaal bodies needed to follow in order to gain the recognition of the Malaysian government. He also highlighted the problem areas they faced with different Halaal bodies they have visited in various countries. These problems ranged from Halaal certification being done as a family run business, to pre-printed signed Halaal certificates being given to companies.

The second paper which was delivered by Dato Dr Mohamad Azmie Zakaria, the director of Biosecurity and SPS management at the Ministry of Agriculture.
His paper dealt with the Surveillance and Monitoring of Foreign abattoirs and processing plants supplying to Malaysia. The speaker emphasised the Malaysian health requirements   which have to be adopted by plants wishing to export to Malaysia.

The third paper for the day was delivered by Hakimah binti Mohammed Yusoff of Jakim. Her topic included the Malaysian Protocol for the Halaal Meat and
Poultry Production. The discussion included issues pertaining to logistics and Halaal products.

The keynote speaker for the day was the Honorable Major General Dato Seri Jamil Khir bin Haji Baharom (R), Minister in the Prime Minister's Department. He spoke about the increased focus on the supply of Halaal products and the Halaal revolution currently underway on a global level. This was followed by a panel discussion on the Halaal certification of
pharmaceutical products and alternative Halaal medication.

The conference was attended by Moulana Abdul Wahab Wookay who accepted an award and certificate on behalf of the NIHT.
