The National Independent Halaal Trust (NIHT) held its annual Supervisors Seminar at the Baitun Nur Centre in Lenasia on Saturday, 14 September 2024. A total of 93 supervisors, hailing from Gauteng, North West, Polokwane, and Mpumalanga, were invited to attend. Applications Manager Adnaan Gabru delivered a presentation on the roles and responsibilities of supervisors. NIHT’s COO, ML Abdullah, introduced the Supervisors Manual for canteens, while CEO ML Abdul Wahab presented the Supervisors Manual for abattoirs, with a focus on GSO/UAE standards. ML Moeneeb Martin discussed food safety and hygiene, and Suraya Essop provided insights on HR matters. The seminar included a Q&A session and concluded with a delicious lunch. The supervisors were then required to take an examination based on the day’s training. Long service awards were presented to supervisors who have dedicated 10 years or more to NIHT. Notably, Ebrahim Dines and Abdul Hamid Malek were recognized for their outstanding 26 and 23 years of service, respectively, to Halaal assurance with NIHT. The training was part of the brief of continuous upskilling of personnel and keeping the supervisors abreast of the various International standards like ISO 9001 and ISO 17065 that the NIHT adhere to, making them the leading certifying body when it comes to international exports.
