Kindly be advised that Nando’s Maponya Mall, situated at Shop 154, Maponya Mall, Soweto, is now certified Halaal by the NIHT. Karims Butchery and Supermarket situated at Corner Bezuidenhout Street & Bertrams Road – Troyeville Is Not Halaal certified by the NIHT and has fraudulently displayed the NIHT logo on their window. Muslims are urged to abstain from frequenting the above mentioned outlet. Date: 21 April 2013 After an in-depth audit of all ingredients used in the manufacture of the Snowflake Easy Mix Range of products, we are pleased to announce that they are Halaal compliant and have been certified as such by the National Independent Halaal Trust (NIHT). Future packaging will bear the NIHT Halaal logo, but until such time, the certified products can be identified by the Best Before Date starting from the 30th of March 2013. Date: 25 November 2011 A malicious Blackberry message is being circulated which claims that Orion Cold Storage is a supplier to Nando’s. This message, which emanates from an anonymous source, is a hoax and is completely untrue. Neither the NIHT, nor Nando’s have ever dealt with Orion. We furthermore assure the Muslim public, that all chickens supplied to our Halaal certified stores emanate from local Halaal certified suppliers. Date: 01 November 2010 The NIHT is aware of the fraudulent labeling of box meat as Halaal by a Cape Town based company. This company is not certified Halaal. The necessary steps including legal are presently being pursued. AS A POLICY THE NIHT DOES NOT APPROVE IMPORTED MEAT PRODUCTS. We have in the past made announcements to this effect. Date 04 April 2010 Woolworths has introduced a Halaal Certified gelatine in the following yoghurt variants: Whilst there is a difference of opinion amongst Ulama regarding gelatin, the gelatin in question is certified Halaal based on the opinion and fataawa of majority of Mufti’s including Mufti A.K. Hoosen (Channel Islam), Mufti Afzal Elias (Jamiat), Mufti Radaaul-Haq (Darul Uloom Zakariyya), Mufti Qassim Seema (Darul Uloom Newcastle), Mufti Akbar Hazarvi (Darul Uloom Pretoria), Mufti Taqi Usmani (Pakistan), Mufti Burhanuddien (Nadwatul Ulama India), Sheik Hawari (Lecturer Damascus University) as well as Prof. (Dr’s) Loonat, Bhika. Date: 28 January 2010 Kindly be advised that the e-mail circulating regarding Kellogg’s, which is attributed to Grace De La Cruz, emanates from the USA and is not applicable to Kellogg’s South Africa.
